You will start with an initial consultation, which does not involve hypnosis: rather we shall talk over what it is you want to address and achieve so that I can build up a detailed picture of your situation and what you want to achieve, allowing me to pinpoint and explain to you the most effective ways forward. Then we shall look at how the brain works in relation to what you’re dealing with, so that it will become clear exactly what else we have to do to get you where you want to be. Subsequent sessions will be designed to help you firstly ‘put things to bed’ – if necessary, and only with your agreement – and then discover and put in place the best ways forward for you. I also help you rewire/retrain your brain, so that thinking, feeling and acting positively become your automatic responses.
Significantly, you don’t have to believe that change in your life is possible, you just have to want it. Furthermore, hypnotherapy does not work by magic – you have to commit to putting the necessary work in. Then, when you start to reap the benefits, and feel so much better, you will feel encouraged to engage in the process all the more.
Our expectations of hypnotherapy benefit greatly from the ‘neuroscience revolution’, particularly with the development of fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging) and EEG (electroencephalography). Now we can actually see how hypnotherapy affects brain activity and neurogenesis. For instance, this EEG reading, from a subject experiencing a Solution Focused Hypnotherapy trance, showing no beta brainwave activity, and instead alpha brainwave activity, denotes that the subject is relaxed, positive, visualising, and engaged in problem-solving,
whereas this next EEG image, taken at the end of a Solution Focused Hypnotherapy session, and showing intense delta and theta brainwave activity, with little alpha and beta activity, indicates that the subject is now calm, relaxed and engaged in reprogramming the brain in line with their intuition and true beliefs.
